RFH Film Conversion Process (Typically 7-10 days)

  1. Index every film real with a unique number in the order that it will be transferred to DVD or USB.
  2. Determine correct software configuration for 8mm, super 8mm, or 16mm film conversions.
  3. Capture film in high definition one frame at a time using the Retro Scan Universal. Frame by frame film scanning is the only way to properly transfer film reels.
  4. Convert the new image sequence into a Premiere Pro timeline for post editing. This step is vital for preparing a film to DVD or film to USB project.
  5. Correct film for highlights, mid-tones, shadows, and color balance. Works wonders on  tonal quality of 8mm film and 16mm film.
  6. Export an MP4 using the H.264 codec or an archival DVD depending on customer request.

Our film scanner can transfer 8mm film, it can transfer super 8mm film, and it can transfer 16mm film, and it can transfer 16mm film with audio.

Film conversion is one of Roots Family History’s most prized preservation services. We have dedicated 1000’s of hours into perfecting our process.
